THEIR BACK: THE AUSTRALIAN MTV AWARDS

That’s right, the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards are getting ready to heat up your screens and rock your core with a kaleidoscope of A-list celebs, drama to drool over, and melodies and mayhem for good measure!

Relocating to the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday March 27, this year’s awards will make your head swim with a world class show you ain’t never seen.

Remember the famous MTV Britney/Madonna kiss? Well, championing this year’s show is the legendary producer responsible for it all! US based Alex Coletti will lead the MTV production team headed by Rebecca Batties, General Manager, Music Brands MTV Networks Australia. Joining MTV in 1989, Coletti developed and produced the legendary music series MTV Unplugged and can now name five MTV Awards shows, two Superbowl Half-Time shows and portions of Live Earth in his credentials.

Chupa Chups will ensure celebs and fans will be stuffing their faces with tropical flavoured treats as a supporting brands sponsor, while the Vodafone MTVAA’s 2009 also welcome Jagermeister, Joop Thrill and Sharpie as first time supporting brands.

The live broadcast of the Vodafone MTV Australia Awards 2009 will air exclusively on MTV Australia with the red carpet commencing at 7:30pm (AEST) and the main show at 8:30pm (AEST).

And for the first time ever you can watch all the red carpet action streamed at mtv.com.au LIVE at 8pm!

THIS YEAR DBLOG WILL BE GIVING YOU COVERAGE OF THE AWARDS FROM VIDEOS TO NEWS TO WINNERS. WE WILL BE THE UNOFFICAL MEDIA SOURCE FOR THE AWARDS.

STAY TUNED!

PINK BLOG POST: VICTORIAN FIRES

P!nk has just donated an astounding $250, 000 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. This amount is an extraordinarily generous outpouring from her, coming after a recent very successful tour through Australia. These perfromances have shown her Aussie fans to be very loyal, and she has repaid them well.

In a statement released through her representatives in Australia, P!nk has expressed sympathy with the victims of the fires.

I’ve been really affected by the media images of the tragic bush-fires in Victoria.

My heart goes out to all those who have suffered so much in these circumstances.

There’s little anyone can do at such a long distance away but I wanted to make a tangible expression of support.

I will be donating $250,000 to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, and hope that this, amongst all the other outpouring of charitable support, will help the rebuilding of lives and communities in the areas affected.

I’m looking forward to returning to a country I love so much.

P!nk

DBLOG – HEAR IT FIRST

Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian has posted an announcement on social networking site Twitter saying he was threatened with a knife in a street mugging in LA.

“Oh my gosh, I just got mugged at knife-point no kidding!” he wrote. “Got a meatball subway and was met outside by two thugs who wanted cash! $150!”

News Limited reports the attack took place outside a Subway restaurant on the streets of Hollywood around 3am on Saturday.

“It was after working late in the studio and he didn’t have his wallet or phone on him, so just gave them the money he had,” his agent Titus Day said.

“He threw the money at them to distract them and when they went to get it, he ran and jumped in his car and went back to the hotel.”

But Sebastian did not contact police over the incident because he was not worried about the money.

“He said they were young and seemed like homeless guys, and that he didn’t feel like he was in serious danger,” Day said.

That’s a little daft, Guy. Not reporting it leaves them free to try it again.

Victorian Bushfire Appeal

The 2009 Victorian bushfire Fund to assist individuals and communities affected by devastating bushfires in Victoria has been launched by the Premier John Brumby in partnership with Red Cross and the Federal Government. A number of corporate organisations including NAB, ANZ, CBA and Wesfarmers have also contributed to the fund.

An independent panel made up of community leaders will oversee the appeal Fund’s operation. Criteria for assistance will include the extent of the hardship covered and the extent to which a person’s livelihood has been impacted.

Donations can be made by phoning Red Cross Response 1800 811 700 or by following this link https://www.redcross.org.au/Donations/onlineDonations.asp

Around 400 Red Cross volunteers have been working across the state to:
  • register the names of people affected by the fires so that family and friends can contact Red Cross to check that they are ok
  • provide meals for fire fighters, police and other emergency services personnel, as well as people in relief centres
  • provide first aid to assist emergency services personnel and affected people
  • provide personal support to volunteers — emotional support, information and referrals to recovery services
Checking on friends and family in the area
  • People should ring 1800 727 077 if they are unable to contact someone in the affected areas.
  • Details on the full impact of the fires are sketchy as many of them are still burning. We continue to be guided by fire authorities and the State Government.
  • Our focus at the moment is to ensure the wellbeing of people who have been affected by the fires.
Businesses wanting to donate

If you are a business and want to donate to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009, you can email businesspartnerships@redcross.org.au or phone Chris Rawlins on 02 9229 4135. Please do not donate goods

Red Cross is not requesting or accepting donations of goods. We are focused on helping people affected by the fires and the emergency workers in their ongoing efforts. It is unclear at this stage whether any other organisation is accepting goods.

Volunteering

Red Cross is currently compiling a list of people who have registered their interest to volunteer. They are not in a position at the moment to utilise the people on this list, however they will be in touch with them later in the week if the situation changes. Or you could try this link www.govolunteer.com.au/

THE GRAMMY GUEST LIST: WHO LEFT IT AND WHY

Rihanna and Chris Brown have both cancelled their Grammy appearances. While no official reason has been given by either of the pair, it is known that Brown is under investigation after a violent altercation yesterday. An unidentifiable female was reportedly injured in the event.

Brown was nominated for two categories. Brown also pulled out of his scheduled appearance at the awards, with rumours at this stage being that he will be replaced by either Al Green or Justin Timberlake.

AUSSIES OVERSEAS

Missy Higgins is off to a great start in the United States. This week her song Where I Stood cracked the Top 10 on the American AC radio charts and is Top 20 with a bullet on the equally influential HOT AC charts. Recent days have also seen an impressive jump on U.S. iTunes for both the single and her album On A Clear Night taking her total international downloads to well over the half million mark. Her MySpace page has just gone past 10 million plays and the national music channel, VH1 has Where I Stood in their top 20 most requested videos.

It’s been a long slow build for Missy overseas – built largely on nearly 200 performances in North America through 2008. However it seems that her music is now really connecting with a growing U.S. audience in a genuine way.

In February/March she will undertake her largest ever Stateside tour, headlining the 3000 capacity venue Terminal 5 in New York City, the 2000 Capacity Orpheum in Los Angeles and the legendary Filmore in San Francisco. She’ll be joined by Canadian singer/songwriter Justin Nozuka with her Australian friend Lenka opening the shows.

Missy will be heading back to Australia for her first Australian shows in almost 18 months when she hits up Bluesfest on Monday April 13, and WA’s West Coast Blues ‘n’ Roots Festival on Saturday April 18 at Fremantle Esplanade
